You a re looking at Christopher Radko’s 99-436-0 Japanese “Fan Dancers” Italian Ornaments. The Japanese fan dance, or SENBU, is a traditional Japanese dance form often performed by women in brightly colored kimonos, using a hand-held fan as a prop. The fan is more than just a prop, it plays a crucial role in creating the mood and carrying the emotion of the dance. Part of Japan’s cultural heritage, the dance is still performed today, especially in traditional Japanese dance performances. As always with Radko’s Italian ornaments, no detail is left behind. From the delicate folding and glittering of the ladies fans, traditional bold make up and elaborate hair arrangements (chignon included). The fan dance is meant to portray the emotions of the dancer. As captured in these two ornaments, their facial expressions are so delicate yet captivating! The Dancer’s Kimono color in PURPLE is meant to represent NOBILITY. The Kimono’s color in RED complete with a Red Obi around her waist is meant to ward off EVIL SPIRITS. This ornament is approximately 7.25 in height and made in Italy.
